Your role at BRE
This Lighting Consultant role sits within BRE’s Built Environment team and supports the delivery of specialist lighting consultancy services, including both daylighting and electric lighting. The role involves working on a wide range of projects for commercial and public sector clients, contributing to the assessment, modelling, and optimisation of lighting in the built environment.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
Deliver technical consultancy in lighting, including daylight and electric lighting assessments
Support planning applications through daylight/sunlight analysis, Environmental Statement chapters, and related documentation
Contribute to projects involving light pollution, energy efficiency, visual comfort, and the impact of lighting on health and well-being
Undertake building and lighting modelling using CAD and specialist lighting software
Manage assigned projects to time and budget, ensuring high technical standards and client satisfaction
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes
Assist in experimental work and validation of innovative lighting solutions
Produce clear, technically robust reports and present findings to clients and non-technical audiences
Your profile
To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
Essential
A degree in lighting or a related discipline, a relevant professional qualification, or equivalent experience working in the lighting field
Strong numerical and mathematical modelling skills
Proficiency in CAD, with experience in building modelling
Competent user of Microsoft Excel and Word
Excellent written English, with the ability to clearly communicate complex technical information to non-specialist audiences
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively
Good communication and teamwork abilities, with confidence in client-facing and presentation scenarios
Enthusiasm for learning and a willingness to develop technical knowledge and expertise
Desirable
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. in lighting or surveying)
Experience using specialist lighting software, particularly RADIANCE
A track record of successfully managing technical projects
Commercial awareness and a strong understanding of client needs
A flexible approach to work and willingness to travel within the UK and internationally

Work Location Options
Mostly Remote – This role is primarily home-based, with occasional travel to our head office in Watford for planned meetings (once every three months).
